Sydney Gray was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and has been training in dance for the last fifteen years of her life. Sydney’s introduction into dance started at the age of three years old at Axis Dance studio in Calgary, Alberta. When she turned six years old, she moved to Soul to Sole Dance Company where she trained in many styles including tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, contemporary/modern, hip hop and pointe. Sydney was trained here by many incredible choreographers and dance instructors such as Breanne Johnson-Lee, Tanya Chumak, Amanda Brown, Brittney Johnson, Sean Butler, Katherine Woodhead and many others who helped to develop her dance technique. In addition to her studio training, she also received training from the Performing and Visual Arts program at Central Memorial High School under the instruction of Jason Stroh, Alison Stone, Christie Preston and Corinne Vessey. Through this program, Sydney got to be exposed to many different dance styles such as West African, Afro Cuban, Latin, Bollywood and swing. She also got her first official taste of choreography when she along with her student choreography groups created their pieces entitled “Stuck” and “Against the Flow”. Dance has always been Sydney’s main focus and passion in regards to the arts, however she also has a background in art and music as well. Sydney is also presently a dance instructor at Soul to Sole Dance Company where she teaches young dancers various styles including ballet, tap, and jazz. Sydney loves teaching dance and looks forward to another great year of dancing!
